Artist Statement: Inanimate Relationships Photo Project

  • Huge twin arrows on the roadside of Interstate 40 in Northern Arizona.
  • The vertical line up of See-Doo water craft with white undulating seats appears to look like either a row of white cap waves in the ocean or whipped cream topping. The seats provide graphic and abstract pattern of repeated form. Some handle bars are visible and the {quote}VX{quote} model designation appears on four of the vehicles.

The Dorn Pyramid in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in San Luis Obispo has stood for more than 100 years, a Masonic symbol sheltering the mortal remains of a mother and child.But as the years have passed, a veil of mystery has come to surround the Dorn Pyramid. The mystery is compounded by the inscriptions on the marker at the entrance to the pyramid noting the burials within: Cora Russell Dorn (1868-1905) and Fred Adolphus Dorn, Jr. (1905 - 1905).

  • The Rustic Oasis Motel sign with a lenticular cloud formation behind it. The Rustic Oasis Motel is an American roadside attraction along California highway 395 in the Eastern Sierra. Lenticular clouds (Altocumulus lenticularis in Latin) are stationary clouds that form in the troposphere, typically in perpendicular alignment to the wind direction. They are often comparable in appearance to a lens or saucer. Because of their unique appearance, they have been brought forward as an explanation for some unidentified flying object UFO sightings.
